Can I take time off from training to travel?
Martial Arts Gap Year participants will have each weekend off so they can explore or travel. All of our participating programs and schools are located in amazing, historic locations so there is much to see. In addition to weekends, public holidays are also a great time for our gap year participants to travel. If this is something that you would like to do please discuss this with your SMA advisor. They will be happy to assist you with ideas and tips for making the most out of your travel.

Do I need previous martial arts experience?
To take up a martial arts gap year you need not have any prior martial experience. All you need to do is empty your cup, harness your sense of adventure and be enthusiastic and committed. Make martial arts and adventure travel your catalyst to greater awareness and self-growth.
I'm worried about traveling alone. Will I meet people on the gap year?
Most of our martial arts gap year participants travel alone, but you're likely to meet people going to the same destination, or once you've arrived. We'll do our best to put you in contact with other SMA students before your departure, though one of our SMA Facebook groups.
What's included in the program price?
Prices include... Pre-departure advice and our Free consultation, SMA information pack, 24/7 Support from local coordinator, 3 Meals per day, Tuition, Optional extra classes, Accommodation, Language learning materials, and Selected discounts.
What s not included?
Prices do not include international and domestic flights, visas and vaccinations, travel insurance, personal expenses or local transport. However, we can help you arrange these before departure or make recommendations.
What will the accommodation be like?
Accommodation at various schools offer different levels of accommodation and comfort. Most accommodation is fairly basic and is shared. However, you will not share with more than 1 or 2 other persons and they will not be of a different sex. Should you wish to have a room of your own this can be arranged for additional costs.
